Diving in the bays of Elba
For diving and snorkeling, the Island of Elba offers a lot of possibilities. The seabeds, all around the island, are rich in marine life and full of curiosities: divers can explore caves, landslides, shallows and flotsam standing on the bottom of the sea at various profundity levels. The diving points can be reached only by boat or with the diving centers of the island. In the summer are organized a lot of excursions at least two or three time a week and always with the support of qualified diving guides. In the other seasons is better to ask for info to the diving center that usually requires a minimum number of participants.
Not to be missed is the wreck of the Elviscott sank in 1972 at the Scoglio dell'Ogliera in Pomonte and the one of the Junker 52, a plane of World War II discovered off Portoferraio.
Or else, try to visit the marine landslide located off the beach of Ghiaie in Portoferraio nearby the Scoglietto. This area was declared marine protected area and it's considered as a true natural aquarium where lovers of photography can have a lot of fun.
Departing from Marina di Campo, you can even participate to one-day trips to Pianosa and dive in pristine seabeds. It is a unique occasion because the diving activities are reserved only to the diving centers accredited to the region.
