Hiking in the Island of Elba

The morphology of the Island of Elba allows lovers of hiking and walking to practice their favorite sport in a spectacular variety of natural environments. Sea, beach, countryside, hill and mountain are all close to one another and can be explored within a few km.

Along the paths, after every turn, the panorama presents unexpected scenarios that just who has choose to live the island to the fullest had the pleasure to find. Hiking is the ideal activity to enjoy the natural wonders of this Island, so charming even during autumn and winter.

Starting from the small fisherman's villages along the coast, the most suggestive itineraries lead the excursionists on the hills towards ancient fortresses built by the Medici family and by the Spanish, archeological sites of etruscan and roman era, towers and lighthouses. Strategic outposts from which the island was protected and that now allows you to see beautiful panoramas embracing a great part of Elba.

Not to be missed are then the paths passing through the old iron mines, on Mount Calamita and in Rio Marina. Those mines were transformed into open air museums and opened to the public for excursions and guided visits.
